[Vwdiesel] Cracked Block ???? ( maybe not ).

What about the stud that goes into the head to hold
the timing belt tensioner on? Perhaps if it were
overtightened, it could cause a coolant leak.
I had an IMPOSSIBLE to locate slow coolant leak appear
immediately after I re-ringed the old Jetta motor at
200,000 miles. I thought it was coming from the rear
of the head gasket, due to some unnoticed crud upon
installation. I put in Alumaseal stop leak and it
worked! Drove it for 50,000 miles like that until the
engine wore completely out from not being bored in the
first place.
Disassembly of the motor revealed that the block was
cracked, the crack running through the left front head
bolt hole and around to where the threaded spacer for
the timing belt cover screwed into the block. Even
though I cleaned and sucked out the head bolt holes
well, I guess it was not good enough and I cracked it
installing the head! The injection pump bracket and
rear timing belt cover completly covered the crack, so
it could not be seen! Here is the link to the pic of
