[Vwdiesel] Intake "throttle"

My old mercedes 200D had an intake throttle plate (butterfly) that had a
gravity weight closer, defeated by the intake suction when it revved, and it
was also opened by a cam operated by the accelerator linkage. I often
wondered why it had that.

Perhaps it was to moderate the induction of cold air when it was not needed,
to keep the innards warmer and improve light-off at low power requirement.
