While I can't argue with your other arguments, I do question the car seat comment.
Our kids are now 4 and 6, and were raised with an '85 Jetta. We never found any
difficulty fitting in two car seats, and can still squeeze a 3rd kid in between if needed.
Both seats are quite large Evenflow models, one with a large base that allow for
reclining the seat, and both have the swing down arm, as opposed to just a harness,
so they are about as large as a seat gets...
If you really want to get her out of the minivan, I suggest bringing a seat along to try,
she might be surprised.
