While I agree that the back seat of a Jetta is Plthhhh compared to a
Passat, I don't see a car seat NOT fitting in it. The seat itself isn't that
much different. It's the lack of leg room that is mine and my daughters
gripe about the rear seat of a Jetta.

As I've said before, I want someone to show me where our fuel is bad for
the engine! It's bad for the 3-way cats that they want to/are starting to
use but bad for the engine?? It's a DIESEL remember? :) Most likely
the engine either can't meet or won't meet for very long, the emissions
standards in effect/coming into effect, so they don't want to go through
all the hassles of getting it passed by the EPA. Something along that
line is my guess anyway.
You could always look for a used 96 or 97 Passat until the new ones
arrive. :) My wife bought her mini van with 140K miles on it and still
has no fear of the miles on it. In fact it's a better vehicle than her
parent's, which they just sold with much less mileage on it.
