  97 Passat right?  If you turn off the key and then right back on do you
have your power back?  If so then it's one cause of "Warp Field Collapse."
  On your left side of the firewall is a hose connecting to the bottom of
a solenoid or such.  The hose goes across the top of the firewall and
through it into the cowl.  This stupid hose connects to the bottom of
this solenoid and kinks where it makes the 180 bend.  Unkink it and
your plasma conduit will be flowing full force and you'll stop blowing
out your warp field plasma relays.  ;-)
