[Vwdiesel] alignment

On A1s and A2s, I've always set the camber to near 0 and the toe-in to
0. I recently bought a 03 Jetta TDI, and found it basically undrivable
on any kind of slippery road. Under warranty, I got the dealer to
realign things. They didn't tweak the camber much (I'm finding out why,
as I'm begining to read my service manual), but I had them set the
toe to 0. Improved things 400%. Well a lot, at least.
Once set, if not abused by spring potholes much, I found that the alignments
are good for YEARS. I have a track guage in the garage, so I can do
quick checks of toe. I use it for before and after measurements when
doing tie rods and steering rack work.
I spend most of my miles on "interstate" type highways.
