[Vwdiesel] thermostat & water pump sources?

     Our discussions of replacement thermostat and water pump quality issues
led to a bunch of blank looks when I made the rounds of the FLAPS.  I
stopped by the nearest dealer today to check their price and was shocked and
appalled.  (The counter man seemed a little embarrassed and added that "they
come with a 12 month warranty.")
    Has anyone had any experience with an online source for true OEM spec
thermostats that open and close when they're supposed to and water pumps
with the good impellers?
