[Vwdiesel] Jetta TDI and more...

Well spoken, Chris. As you see, I am an optimist. Like yourself, I have
abandon all hope of getting even mediocre service at a VW dealer. I go
there for parts that are unavailable elsewhere. I have found an independent
who does the job well enough to bring out the best in my cars, which are
very old and fairly simple (like myself.)

VW might continue to get away with what they do. The general public hasn't
put VW out of business in the USA after fifty years of experience. And a
new car buyer who gets a VW seldom gets involved in anything except routine
maintenance and a few in-warranty fixes or recalls. They buy the car, keep
it 3 years, and get another one.

Realistically, the Touareg and Phaeton (if they get here at all) will just
be show cars on display at expositions, big-dealer showrooms, and in
advertising brochures/newspaper/magazine bits. People will continue to buy
Passats and Jettas and Beetles and Cabriolets and Eurovans, and a few will
get TDI's. And the lucky ones will find independent mechanics to care for
their cars.

Thank you for lifting the veil of optimism that overwhelmed my keyboard for
a moment. I have regained my precarious grip on reality, temporarily.

And I liked the 2003 TDI Jetta I drove a few months ago.
