Thanks for all the info. I'll pull the tb cover and take a look at the front seals and belt.
I know the belt is ok for mileage, but significant time has elapsed, so it should be
checked anyway. I'm hopeful that the few drips I'm seeing since changing the VC
gasket are just residual oil making its way down the block, so I'll try to clean it some
more I guess. I didn't realize front seals failed that soon. I didn't change mine on my
TD until around 250k, and I think only the crank seal was leaking.

btw, can one check the condition of the notorious int shaft bearings by measuring
play in the shaft with the seal carrier & seal removed? I'm curious what condition they
are in...
