  Isn't it more or less a barrel shape with an odd shaped top?  All cast iron
and steel instead of aluminum?  Those don't have diaphragms, or valves.
They're a rotary pump, like a smog pump or the "lift" pump in the VE pump.
If it's not pulling a strong vacuum, first look for leaks or a bad brake
booster.
If the pump's worn, like mine was, you'll need to face the lid and grind down
the body a bit to match up with the rotor.  The rotor could most likely need
faced lightly as well.
