[Vwdiesel] Yet another inane Vanagon question

Jim,

Not to sound negative, but my 1.6 had the exact same problem before it
self destructed: it would blow oil out the dip stick tube. The breathers
were all fine, etc. I actually drove the engine for about 1000 miles this
way. I put a plastic bag with rubber-bands over the dip stick. No more
leak.

One fellow told me it could be a sign of either a leaky head gasket, or
rings that are shot. I was going to pull that engine apart and
investigate, but it threw a rod clean through the cylinder wall. Hence,
the new 1.9NA.
