[Vwdiesel] 81 Rabbit NA 1.6 problem

Hello all,

Tonight I was driving home on a highway doing about 55mph and all of
sudden I heard a loud screeching noise and the engine just died. I
pulled over on the shoulder and tried to start it again. It started
right up but started to screech again so I just turned it off right away
and towed it home. It almost sounded like a belt screeching, but I won`t
have time to look at it until after school tommorrow, possibly. Has
anyone had this happen before? Any suggestions on what to look for?
Hopefully I won`t find anything too serious when I get a chance to look
at it!
