Don't forget to bleed the cooling system after you're done - it's a
closed system up front on those with the pipes running lower than the
radiator, so there's no way for air to get out.
As you face the front of the van, there's a bleeder valve on the top
left of the radiator. Warm it up, then park it facing up a hill. Have
someone bring the engine up to mid range RPM's and open the valve. Keep
open until you get a steady stream of coolant. If there's a lot of air
(which there shouldn't be with this little procedure), I drive it around
again and repeat a few times. Don't add coolant in the back until
you've parked on a level surface again (for obvious reasons!!).

No need to drain the coolant. If you are fast, you can
unscrew the old thermoswitch and screw in the new one
and only about a cup of coolant will come out.
Caution, do With cold engine only! Don't forget to use
a new gasket too.
