[Vwdiesel] Dumb Question

Duncan,

Don't know much about the gassers, but they all had catalytics since the
mid 70's.

No vw diesels had catalytics until the early 90's, in the ECOdiesel,
then starting in '96 with the TDI and all subsequent years.

The late 70's/early '80's NA engine shared a similar exhaust manifold
(4-2-1, good!) with the gasser, then switched to a 4-1 (bad!) manifold.
The TD's of course had 4-1 manifolds which mounted the turbo.

All diesel muffler part numbers are somewhat different than the gasser
to allow for soot.

I believe this is generally how it went. But don't take this as the
gospel. I'm sure there are some deviations and year combination errors.
