Michael,
Since you working with a pre-'81, 11mm engine, there are four available
head gaskets...

1=2E3mm 0680103-383
1=2E4   068-103-383C
1=2E5   068-103-383G
1=2E6   068-103-383H

Generally, yes, you can use the same gasket part number as was removed,
but like Loren said, don't take for granted what there. Measure it. A
flat edge and feeler gauges is all you need to measure piston
protrusion.

These gasket parts numbers will probably be superceded. But what ever
current replacement gasket will usually have these old numbers crossed
referenced on the package.

Good Luck,

-Gary, Orlando

 This is my first engine teardown/rebuild so please bear with me!!!!

timing belt to use (mfr recommendations, etc.) I only see one listed on ETK=

 new tensioning roller (068 109 243 F) while I am at it? Does anyone know =
where I can get a timing belt cover (068 109 191 C)? Are they still availab=
le for purchase from places like VWparts.com? Is it critical that I have t=
he t-belt cover?

g super-duty in there, just to replace the worn out ones that are currently=
 in there.
