[Vwdiesel] sticking caliper?

then, it's what Gary sez, or there is a ridge worn inside the caliper where
the piston resides. What happens, it is a small insignificant ridge, and
free floating or not, the ridge keeps enough pressure on the ring that the
piston can't retract far enough, and you get exactly what you describe.
Remember, the claiper floats, but the pressure only comes on from one side-
the piston side, so if the piston can't retract far enough, one side
(opposite the piston) can be free enough, but the piston side still rubs too
hard and gets hot.
Usually, it's the bolts I have found- they need to slide freely inside the
caliper bushings, which can sometimes get cocked when reinstalling the bolts
as well. They are like the bottom of an ice cream pail in thickness and
substance.
