  One other thing I've heard mentioned is lack of freeplay on the brake 
pedal.  
The master cylinder isn't allowed to fully return to the rest position so the 

pressure isn't fully released.
  I like the old ATE calipers.  Two pistons and no slide action.  Not as big 
of pads but I never noticed any less braking action from it.
  Most likely it's the pins, or a hose, like mentioned.  Either are cheap.  
Be 
sure to check the freeplay first though.  :)
