If a bearing in a PS pump or alternator or A/C
compressor is near the end of its life, it usually
gives its last gasp right after a new belt is
installed and tightened. Also, the biggest cause of
bearing failure (and it can take years) is running the
belt too tight, even a little too tight. Its almost an
art to get it just right. I think I even run them a
little too tight.
