Wade Yorke and all. : The Germans are living in a very "High Tech" society --- more so than our American friends. So they tend to leave too much to the nerds and not enough to practicum.

The " Relay" is not a relay , it is a combination of relay and control circuit . For details look up in archives for links to Roger Browns site. Great place to start. (he is an electrical engineer).

Light on dash does not indicate whether plugs are on or off.So answer is to connect a 12V bulb directly to plug bussbar.

The new plugs are designed to be on for a duty cycle of 3 minutes ON (max) each time used.
WARNING: I see plug fuses being replaced by jumper , I see bigger fuses than specified ----DO NOT DO IT. I have seen all the wiring inside the mess in front of your legs ---Crappy design if I ever saw some. (firetrap) VW designed the NEW system "Fast Plugs" to stay on after startup to reduce smoke. Old system cut out the second the first cylinder fired. I think the signal comes from alternator. Hagar.

PS: Rabbit Jetta and some other VW models use same system year of make deciding.Yes you can mix ---old and new plugs as follows. Old plug "slow" in fast system NO. New plug "fast" in slow system OK. --- So two old plugs and two new plugs in old system is OK. If you use old plugs in new system they have a shorter life.
