Up here in the Great White North (Ontario) there is a "visual" test. The
inspector simply looks for excessive smoke. Matter of fact, when I got my
test done, the tester didn't even look at the car -- they do all the regular
maintenance on it and knew it wasn't a smoker. Cost the same as running the
gasser up on the dyno and going thru the cycle, however.
