I think that I will replace that joint.

I guess that cv joints are tough enough that even if the surface is
broken the damage does not progress that fast.

So, Ethan's proposal to continue using the old joint is a reasonable
alternative.  There was spalling on this joint when I reassembled the
drive shaft 60k miles ago and it is not all that much worse now.
