***For my old Rabbit 1.6Lna engines do you have a recommendation for oil?***

I use AMSOIL full synthetic 15w-40 in my 1.6 n/a Diesel.

***I think that the synthetic oil is the way to go but it sounds like
Castrol Syntec is not good stuff! Why in the world would the VW dealerships
be using it???***

Your guess is as good as mine on why the dealership insists on using Syntec.
It claims to meet VW 505.00 specs. Big deal IMO. It's also only a Group 3
oil (it's made from dino-oil basestocks so IMO it's not a true synthetic
oil) and it's only API CF. CF oils are designed for "off-road,
indirect-injected, diesel engines burning high-sulphur diesel".

IMO, the best choice of oil to use in the TDI is an API CI-4 (the only
rating for EGR equipped diesel engines) Group 4 (made with synthetic
basestocks) oil.

Thanks Bruce~
I'm just to the point of doing my own maintenance on my TDI. The
stealership is giving me real heartburn here in Twin Falls Idaho!
Anyway, the information you provide is very helpful. I will pursue an
outlet for the Delvac-1 5w40.
For my old Rabbit 1.6Lna engines do you have a recommendation for oil?
I know that Hagar doesn't believe in synthetic oils, Texas TDI presses
for the value of synthetic. I think that the sythetic oil is the way to
go but it sounds like Castrol Syntec is not good stuff! Why in the
world would the VW dealerships be using it???
