***4. castrol 505.01 from dealer is a group 3, not group 4 synthetic. as i
understand it, it is a synthetic made from a blend of dino and synthetic
constituents, not 100% synthetic. it is a synthetic oil.***
Group 3 oils are made from dino basestock molecules that are hydrocracked
into a different and new molecule. The molecules are changed just enough to
convince the court systems to allow the oils to be called "synthetic".
Group 4 oils are made from 100% synthetic basestocks. They start synthetic,
and they stay synthetic.
Group 3 oils do not behave like Group 4 oils. Group 4 oils boil at higher
temperatures and flow at lower temperatures vs. Group 3 oils.
Both oils may be called "synthetic" but both oils are definitely NOT equal.
Not equal in their creation and not equal in their performance.
