[Vwdiesel] RE:Gunked up case, good parts- Clean case, all worn out?

Look at any shelf ----  what do you see ???  things like " Super detergent"  
High detergent
implying that  ----- it is good for the engine.   The word "clean" sells a 
lot of gasoline and oil to women. 

I haven't seen a detergent oil since I was a kid.  Do they still sell them 
in Canada?  They pretty well eliminated then when as you said, it 
was used in old, dirty engines and all the crud broke loose, plugged 
oil passages and failures happened.  I'd sure like to be able to get 
some once in a while when an engine DOES need a good cleaning.  
Beats replacing or cleaning hydraulic lifters.  

   The best lube   for one engine here is 30 SAE straight mineral oil.
