[Vwdiesel] Used Pistons/Head

  How far is it warped?  Our local shop does them no problem.  They just use 
a big belt sander.  I think one place actually machined one for my once too.  

Those inserts actually are soft rather than hard.  Take a file and "flat 
file" the 
head a bit.  You'll end up galling those inserts if you don't clean it every 
stroke or two!
  As my first machinist told me:
Scott: "By the way, that VW head is cracked"
Me:  "So... What?  Exactly what do you mean?  Is it fixable, not useable???
Scott:  "No, it just won't crack any more"
  Most of the time the cracks don't hurt anything, just tap and lightly peen 
them down.
  Do you REALLY want to bore an engine to USED pistons???  They're usually 
available for $100 to $200 for a complete set new.  If the ridge is really 
bad 
you may need to go 1mm over rather than .5mm
