I've never done it myself, but have been
told my a couple different crotchety old German mechanics so said

James Hansen

And I was blessed to meet a lot of those types , when I was younger.

In every trade or profession one can find the "Mozart's" the " Da Vinci" and
looking back now ---- I can say that the reason they are so much better than
most , has to do with a mysterious ingredient . For the lack of a word
lets say Uncommon knowledge "Acumen" --- and part genius.Critical judgement
is in there too. Are they wrong sometimes ? I should hope so. Perfect people
are a PITA. ------I know for sure.

To test things for straightness the experts use a granite block (black?) mine
is a block of steel ground on a surface grinder. The word surface plate comes to mind.

The secret is to know when to be FUZZY and when not to be. --------- I am too fuzzy.

No need to do so many blotter tests as I do. comes to mind..No need to set the
injectors so precise. No need to change oil as often as I do.

Why are those Germans so good ? has a lot to do with the schooling in Germany
1935 to 1945. And the practicum outside stalingrad.

My German friend here told me he worked for Mercedes in Germany. And yes he was
wrong about the pump on the VW.

As old enemies we sure get along real fine.------- good sign for the future ? I would
say so.

Now you young whippersnappers speak up ---right or wrong. This elder do not
want you to kiss his ass and shut up.

Hagar.

PS: ah I almost forgot --Chrizzy asked me if there was Anything , that I was not an expert
at ?. Yes Chrizzy I cant keep the IRS of my ass. Nothing wrong with a little respect.
I respect everyone's right to have their say --young or old --newbie or wizard.
Remember we are having fun fixing these little beauties.
