Article in last night's paper was on the Passat TDI. They were whining
about how it was so noisy even though VW claims it's quieter than
previous diesels, which no doubt it is. There are 5 states that won't let
it in, CA, NH VT MA (I think) an done more. The whiner, er I mean writer
said in a parking garage, with the window down, it was so clattery that he
looked to see if a big truck was right behind him. (BS!) He said it wasn't
too bad while driving, the wind noise would get loud enough to cover most
of the engine noise and the heater fan was loud enough to cover it as well.
Gee, is that an insult disguised as a supposed non-complaint? Of course
there was no comparison to the VR-6 which I've always heard is actually
noticeably noisier than the TDI. He also complained that when you sit
down in it, you can't see over or around SUVs, trucks and other large
vehicles. (Gee, you probably can't see through walls, fight world hunger
and walk on water while sitting in it either! Sheesh!)
