Justin~
I guess that the "boyz" are feeling shy about your request for input
regarding this poor little block. I appreciate the response thus far
returned but I'm amazed that members of grand standing haven't thrown
into the discussion!
What I can't understand is; where is the piece that broke off of the
block? I guess that it could have been discarded when somebody pulled
the pan. Was there a pile of metallic debris? It just seems that the
errant casting portion would have still been sitting in the sludge at
the bottom of the pan. In that case, and with a clean break, couldn't
it be welded back in place? What would cause such a fracture in a
block? Is there any pressure or stress in this area of the engine?
Have Hagar, Loren or Sandy seen such a thing in their internal
wanderings?
Chuck

Glad aviation is an allowed topic. On the fearless Aeronca Aviators'
board the convention is to use ### in the subject line to designate
posts that are not Aeronca specific to help those who filter there
posts, is this the same here? It is appearing that nobody has run
across this problem before. Guess the A&P will rule and the block will
be
declared unserviceable. Just don't like the idea of having a loose
bushing making metal. Just a thought. I havent went out into the shop
yet this am to check, but is it possible to modify the 11 mm block to a
12 mm block?Justin

engine for myself and Chuck. I tore apart one of the engines and found
the mounting pad for the oil pump missing a piece. it is the corner
that is next to the #4 rod journal and the missing piece extends to the
lower oil pump drive bushing, and the bushing is loose in what is

anchor. Is this an accurate assumption?
