[Vwdiesel] Emergency Fuel? A slight Tangent...

In the aftermath of Hurricane Charley here in central Florida, the
ignorance of the masses continues to astound me.

Saturday morning, I knew I was missing roofing. I was at Lowes at
o-dark-30 when they opened and got my needed materials. Later in the
day, the rumor was that all of the hardware stores have been picked
clean. Many, I say many of my neighbors here are still without roofs.
AND, it's rained everyday since.

At a buddy of mine's house (he lives in Mich.) the locals were busy
tarping their houses. Everyone lost roofing. My wife and I walked around
and was able to gather enough usable shingles to hobble together a
working roof. Countless people came by asking if I had extra nails,
shingles, or tarps. Sorry, no.

Today, since we have no working phones, my wife and I are checking in
with all of our local friends to see how they fared. Every operating gas
station had a RUN for gasoline. Traffic was snarled for miles around
every station we passed. In today's Orlando Slantinel, there were
numerous stories of people panicking because they were about to run
their cars out of gas.

Hmmm, I knew the storm was coming and filled both of my diesels Friday
morning. I'm good to go for at least three weeks if I'm careful.

Of course, I'm chuckling to myself as I pass everyone waiting for gas.

Please don't think I a cold heartless animal. I'll give the shirt off my
back to my neighbor in a pinch. I do, however, do not take pity on those
who DON'T think and plan ahead.
