Any thoughts on that? Was the counter-person
displaying counter-intelligence?
Andrew
Yes Andrew that is IMHO counter intelligence. Anyone working the counter could be
anything from a PHD to a Janitor. ( and a Janitor could be a PHD)
Syn and Dino can be mixed so do not worry. Detergency is a problem with OLD
engines run on NON detergent oil for a long time. Other than that there is no problem.
On OLD VW diesels use DINO not syn ---if you have to look at the price.
A good paraffin oil is best because it burns best and it is ok for a lube. Syn oil is
not a good fuel IMHO.
In a diesel if oil leaks by rings ? is it like a gasser ? bullshit it is ---Oil in combustion
chamber in a diesel works like fuel ---it will burn.
If you have a "smoker" bad rings ---use a good paraffin lube like Aviation piston
engine lube.It burns smoke free with NIL ash. --- And it is less money than Syn.
And keep an eye on the lube with a BLOTTER test. use IBM jet printer paper.
It works ---- you may quote me.
Do a bit of deep thinking , in the old days we did not mix brands or oils. Did the oil
companies have their oil be agreeable with other brands ? bet your sweet ass. So
a standard was introduced. API.
Yes you can mix 30 and 80 and get something in between----I have a chart for that.
The big car companies demanded that oils be compatible.(a guess) And they are.
Shell , Esso , Shewron ---- the whole works had to toe the line ---API.
For OLD VW's use DINO ---- it works.
Hagar.
PS: and yes oil may come from valve seals.
