[Vwdiesel] Synth good for spool ups?

A turbo doesn't turn on and off, it spins all the time as long as the car is
running. As long as there is exhaust coming out of the engine, the turbo is
spinning. But the turbo has to spin at a certain RPM before it starts to
create boost.

Synthetic oils reduce friction. That reduces the engines work load and
helps you gain fuel mileage. For example, Amsoil took an 18 wheeler and
replaced all the dino fluids with synthetic fluids (engine, transmission,
and both rear differentials) and logged an increase in fuel mileage of 8%.

60 miles per Imperial gallon I assume. 1 Imperial gallon equals 1.2 US
gallons. In order to find out how many miles per US gallon your getting I
think you would divide 60 by 1.2. Which would equal 50. 50mpg in a Quantum
is impressive. But wouldn't it be great to get even better fuel mileage?
And also be able to extend your oil drain intervals?

troy says:

One consideration for syn oil is the speed with which oil gets to the
turbo. The quicker the better and dino can't hold a candle to syn at any
place on the temperature scale! The time that oil arrives at the turbo
bearings does not matter is you have a preluber of some type.

I'm a little confused are you saying tht synthetic oil get around the
bearings quicker?
I don't understand the link to lubricating the turbo...
Surely turbo doesnt turn until youve pulled off; and by then the entire
system is pressurised even if you used honey?
Unless you start your vehicle with your foot to the ground and rev the
engine from start up! :o)

Chris why do you get better mileage with synthetics...unless you are talking
about short journeys in Alaska?
My 60mpg in the Quantum is achieved with cheap dino...
