[Vwdiesel] Oil and frost and all that ...

Hi all, I'm new here but have been reading with avid intrest..

Well here in Finland (Europe) it gets pretty cold, minus 25 or 30C is normal
and year before last it was past minus 40C for a few days....  
I've got an '83 Transporter 1.6D, always use good Russian 10-30 Mineral Oil
(which is DINO?? I guess..) (and very cheap) and don't seem to have any
problems...  Anyone who lives with these sorts of temperatures has a block
heater....  If you haven't, go get one!!! 

Good luck and I could think of a few other things on the van that will give
me better MPG than how fast the oil gets round my bearings...

350 000 kms and still going strong....  ('cept we've got gearbox oil all
over the front yard...)
