Check the mating of the bell housing. Something's wrong.
TTBOMM, There are 2 guide dowels that line the tranny up when installing on
the engine. They are sturdy hollow tubes. Get them aligned before torking
down any bolts.
Your starter is probably ok, but out of alignment because of the cocked
tranny, and jamming when mounted on the car.
All of this could result in destroyed clutch, cooked starter, and cracked,
warped, or broken bell housing.
You should NOT have to force the tranny in to place by torquing bolts. It
should slide right in, and the bolts serve to keep it there
Pull it apart and do it again.
