[Vwdiesel] I wish I had an intercooler...

Today I'd just come back from shopping and I decided to pop the hood and stare at my engine. I'd just turned the engine off so it was quite warm inthere! I had a lok at the short distance between the turbo and the inlet manifold and thought what can I
slot in between as an intercooler. Some thing in copper perhaps?
Anyway as I leant towards the engine; I rested the flat of my hand on the rocker
cover and thought hmm thats quite warm and then I touched the inlet manifold and
that was a lot hotter... The heat must be either radiating from the exhaust or
conducting through the gasket [or both]...and this must surely be reducing the potential benefits of cool intake air any research on insulating gaskets and insulation  between manifolds?
