OK gang, today I drove down almost to San Antonio (about 3 1/2 hrs one
way) to pick up the turbodiesel engine that I found. Turns out that it
is a 1V, ecodiesel engine. I have checked it out and it looks good
although covered with oil from a leaky valve cover gasket and a broken
oil filler cap. I was really amazed at how small that turbo its.
Well, now for the questions. Other than the size of the turbo and the
injection pump, are there any internal differences in this engine that
sets it apart? Does it have pistion squirters? What pressure are the
injectors set at? Should I use them with my spare turbo pump or swap
them out for a set of "real" turbo injectors? The small turbo looks is
about the size of the ones on my TDIs. It must spool up pretty fast
giving maximum boost really quick. What is the maximum boost and can I
adjust the waste gate to up it? Also, can anyone scan and send me the
Bentley sections covering this engine or point me to that Russian site
that has the manuals on it. I know, questions, questions. I will most
likely be asking even more as I begin the conversion on the '82
Scirocco. Those of you who have done the conversion of a gas to a
diesel car, drop me a line off list and let me know the ends and outs
of the process. No sense reinventing the wheel if someone has already
puzzled through the process before. thanks, Hayden
