  I often do.  Surprisingly a good valve cover set usually seals that quite 
well.  
Things apparently "squish" together nicely.  Still a dab doesn't hurt.

  Yours come through here clean as can be.  I used to get complaints 
way back about rag-tag ends so I started using the return key at a 
certain point, more or less.  Haven't heard any complaints...
