Only problem is if the vanes are that worn on the pump then they're going 
to need replacing.  If they're just sticky that's another thing.  But worn, 
anything you do is akin to using 20W/50 to solve a low oil pressure 
problem.  It'll get you by for a short time but it's not a solution.  When 
I was at that pump shop, new vanes were less than $20 for the parts, 
but if you want to run #1, those vanes set you back over $100.  If you 
want longer life, there are options.  :)
