[Vwdiesel] Excessive blow by

Well once my garage is built I'm going to tear back into the engine. With
over 5k miles on the rebuild I'm getting excessive blow by. Just to much air
flow out the breather valve, along with a nice oil mist. I guess something
is up with the rings. Great compression but for some reason it is still
allowing blow by. My question is would it be a good idea to get a new set of
rings to fit my .020 over pistons and install them after I rehone the
cylinders? If the rings that are in there now are good, should I go back
with just honing the cylinders and installing the same rings? That is if I
don't find anything wrong with the rings when I pull the pistons, or just
put new rings in? Any tips as to protecting the crank in the process of
honing the cylinders? I don't see a need to pull the entire engine, but if
the shop that did the machine work wants it out I guess I will not have a
choice since they will go back over it for me at no cost since this
shouldn't be happening. If all goes well I should have a nice new 30' x 36'
garage by the New Year. Keep your fingers crossed.
Nick
PS thanks for all the help, as a newcomer to this place, I feel like I have
been here for years. :)
