Just curious, since I'm a jet engine mechanic and work on the F100-220E
Pratt & Whitney engines in the F-15E, this post got me thinking, We went
from JP4 to JP8 a few years back, JP8 being more stable and has a higher
flash point than JP4, would JP8 run in my Jetta? I know of most of the
equipment we have that runs on diesel on the base can be run on JP8 if we
had to. I would guess that there isn't enough lubricant in the JP8 to keep
the pump and injectors lubed. Correct?  Just a thought.

I have been a flyboy  for more than 60 years.   So I have insider
information.

And by normal logic ?   --- the diesel mechanics are in the  flyboy forum
and
the flyboys are here.

Flyboy in my book is anyone who deal with aircrafts   --- any one.

I studied hard for my Urin exams at the local watering hole  ---and found
that a round of beer at the mechanics table  ----would be the best
investment in education --- ever, dollar for doller.

To seat rings ?   ---- yup  ---- time a magneto ?   yup   --- and why are
the flyboys here ?

They found out how far a Rabbit would run on a handful of ooligans or a
candle ---or at
little grease from the deep fryer. (and JP-5 ? eh guys ?) ----- And most of
them are smart to starts with.

Who in his right mind would not fall in love with those little Rabbits at
first sight ?.   .
Who was that guy I gave a bunch of parts for free the other year ?   Turns
out he is a flyboy
and he now has as many VW diesels as Sandy Cameron.

I can feel a Rabbit attack coming on  ----I dare not put the money in the
bank  ---- lest
the IRS takes it.     1982 Rabbit is going to the body shop for a facelift
that would be a good investment ? --- a makeover. -----light metallic blue
--- like  Bunny Bondo.  82? She is Beige now.

So why am I pushing the flyboy angle ?    ----they have a pool of
information  that can be directly
 used in getting a Rabbit hopping. Yup.

The first word I learned from those mechnics at the flying school  1953 ?
"DIESELING"




she is DIESELING   ---the damned thing would not stop by turning magnetos
off..Shitty fuel
and it was a UK engine   ---Gipsy Major ?  4 cylinders(inline) upside down
aircooled.

In the air it worked pretty good.  -----never heard of a failure. The
starter was like a shotgun 
shell -  ---Koffmann or something ?  Very hard on my beer money.  ----if it
does not start ?
the other magneto was off position.   A round for all at the end of the day.

All ?  how many ?   a lot let me tell you.   close to 50.

Well time is flying so   ---more on this some other time..

The first diesel I got my hands on ?   in 1945   was a Jumo in a flying
boat.
Nice diesels    3 of em  ---- and they were destoyed by the Tommy's  . Shame
on you.
Monty and Ike.(and shame on me).

One spare was saved (stolen)---by students(engineering) from University in
Copenhagen .   It was still in the crate from Germany.   ---- and can be
seen in a museum. to this day.  How the hell did James
Hansen know that it was Jumos ?   I did not know. ( he was right)

Blohn and Voss   I think they were.    Nice machines   ----why did they have
to be destroyed ?
The E boats  was not destoyed ?   ----they were diesels  3 times 20 cylinder
aircraft diesels.
BMW ?  or Mercedes ?   forget.

PS :    I got paychecks from all 3 services   Army ,Navy and Airforce.   (
NATO ).
