[Vwdiesel] It's alive

25 degrees F. this morning with the biggest snowfall of the year. My Jetta
with the new junkyard 1.6 na engine I put in 2 weeks ago started right up
and didn't miss a beat on the trip to work and man did it feel good. New
snow tires all around from last winter and it goes. After my whine last
week and several good suggestions things are looking much better, so thanks
to all for putting up with me. It was a combination of a few things but
mostly as suggested by Bryan and a few others I was getting air in the fuel
line. It is coming in around the plastic wafer housing on the new style
fuel filter. I plumbed in an old style filter since I had it and it took
care of the air leak. I'd like to go back to the new style if I can get the
replacement part. Also put in new Bosch glow plugs now individually wired
(per Sandy) Not sure if it was part of the original idea but I put U type
crimp terminals on the ends of the new wires to the plugs so I should never
have to fully remove another glow plug nut while they are in the car.
Actually I was thinking even if I did want to leave the buss bar in why
couldn't you make each of the holes in the bar a open slot so if you
loosened all the nuts you could lift the bar out? Anything to keep from
loosing those nuts, but the individual wires are the way to go to me. Also
loosened the timing belt and got rid of the growling noise. It is loser
than I would have thought it should be but hopefully is ok. With the cold
start out it was hammering really loud and actually started better with it
in so I retarded the pump a pencil line and a half and adjusted the fueling
in about 1/4 turn and it seems much happier. I know the compression is not
the best so suspect when things get really cold I may have more issues but
for now I am running.

Thanks for the help,

Bart
