Any listees in or around Phoenix? Andrew?
If you know of any shops in the area that are straight to deal with, please
let me know.
Father-in-law winters in Sun City, and has a fairly nice diesel pickup that
he wants to get fixed so he can sell it as a runner rather than a project
car. It's in fairly nice shape, been a year since I saw it, but it was
mebbe a 7 out of 10 on the pickup scale... other than the drastically
overheated motor that the Flagstaff hill claimed. (he didn't take to heart
the advice on letting a little wee 4 cylinder diesel run lotsa rpm vs
letting a 14 litre cummins diesel lug...)
I compression tested it when there, the head is gone. coolant out of two
holes, and cold compression waaaaaaaaay below spec in the rest. no starting
this one and driving it home :-) I'm looking for a used 1.6 na engine
and a shop that could do the install for him without causing him to walk
funny.
Andrew's story about wanting to run the hill from Prescott to Flagstaff
reminded me of this. That's a nice run- took it last year in february in my
91 GMC 6.5 3/4ton 4X4 with the Banks Turbo, had the EGT at a steady 1250,
and a nice turbo diesel song playing on the tailpipe. *sigh* good trip. If
you ever need to test egt/boost/fueling tune, this would be the place to do
it. Any advice appreciated, and thank you.
