[Vwdiesel] Lifters

Nice surprise this morning when I went to go to work. When I started up the
Jetta it didn't start like normal. Kind of hit and miss some. I also noticed
a ton more engine noise. It seems that now my lifters are bad. I have a
really bad tapping noise. The car drives fine, but it is really noisy now.
So once my garage is finished, ( they got the brick walls up) I will
defiantly have to start on it. I was hoping to be able to drive it and just
deal with the oil consumption and smoke till the garage was done. But looks
like it will have to be parked until then. I just find it hard to believe
that the lifters, or at least some of them can just go out like that. I
messed up the first time by not doing the entire engine all at once.
Hopefully some will learn from my mistakes. I hate double maintenance!
Oh one more thing. When I put the new rings in, I want to break them in on
straight 30 weight oil. But since it is winter and it does get down into the
20's it just doesn't stay there, Is running a straight weight like that ok?
I know that weight oil at 20 F does not pour well at all.
Thanks,
Nick
