Hope I did not give someone a bum steer .     I said no black smoke
it is not timing ,   think fuel.
I meant to say no smoke.

Because indeed as Loren pointed out white "smoke"   fuel FOG. will
lay down quite a smokescreen if timing is retarded. It has to do with
injecting fuel after oxygen is spent.Or temp has lowered to a point of 
spotty ignition.

I apologize ,  since I knew better. Was in a rush trying to help a comrade
stuck on the road.Cant wait to get a report on the camshaft in 3 pieces.      Hagar
