Not to debate the venerable Hagar as the idea of painting rubber parts
to protect them against the ravages of time, air, oil and diesel- my hat
is off!  I only wish that I had known this cool tip years ago.  However,
gasoline to clean the rubber is not the best idea in my opinion.  I
would think that brake cleaner would be much better as it won't leave a
residue of any kind.  If a solvent is needed such as paint thinner or
gasoline, then dawn or some good detergent would be advisable.
