[Vwdiesel] Injection pump talk --- ( the LDA and high mileage )

Getting the mileage ? --- I spend probably a dollar of my time to save a penny in fuel. But do I do it for the savings ? not on your butt --this is mainly a game and fun to me.

When did I start this fooling around ? ---when I had a 1957 MGA in 1958.
Us gassers used a vacuum gauge to get maximum miles. Remember ? the gauge
had RED ,YELLOW and GREEN sectors.
In Florida I did a test ---and managed to get 50 miles to the US gallon.
Not bad for 1958. (US gallon 14 cents)

Now with the rabbit I am doing the same thing -- TUNING for maximum miles
per gallon. This little cutie pie would blush if she turned in 50 miles.

So what does the LDA have to do with mileage ? everything ---it works as a mixture control
and will work on all the Rabbits Turbo or not. In simple turns it does basically
the same as the Fueling screw. If we used a flex shaft on the screw it would work.
(not practical) but the LDA is practical.

What exactly is the LDA ? --it is an air pressure servo motor operating the fuel
setting. It will increase fueling on demand. It is adjustable and it works on pressure
like 0 to 15 psi. In archives it is called "the Space-ship" ------So next time you go to the
junkie --do not pass up a cheap pump with LDA even if you own a NA. Remember
the LDA can be left unused ---without problems.

Hagar. miles ahead.

PS: the scheme is this---- normal driving --maximum lean ---overtake or climb a
hill----push button on dash and LDA loads in the fuel. Mine will have a timer
to make sure it resets to economy. this for Old Rabbits --1980 to say 1986.
1.5L or 1.6L NA or Turbo. The LDA was intended for turbo diesels.
