It's sounding more and more like my Jetta was doing from too fine of a
hone job. Nothing short of tearing it down, re-ringing and a proper hone
job fixed it for good. It's a turbo so I swapped turbos, changed valve
stem seals, both seemed to help a bit but really musn't have. I had
a friend re-ring it as I was sick of it. He kept the TS ring (second ring,
top
ring??) and replaced the rest which had a lot of wear. That lasted about
10 to 15K, the first problem started at about 15K when I put in a new oil
pump as well. I finally gave in and did it myself, one more time. Proper
hone, wash down, and rings. It has about 15K on that tear down now and
uses very little oil with no smoke. I also kept the two piece TS ring. Sure
cuts the blowby to nil. :)
