[Vwdiesel] '86 runs rough when not fully warmed up

  Sure, it could be a ring but with it being intermittent and at high idle 
I'd look 
at fuel first.  First thing is check for air leaks or restriction like bad 
hose/s, full 
water seperator, drain fuel filter, dirty fuel filter, bubbles in clear line. 
 Then 
I'd check the injectors and look for one that's a little pissy probably.  
That's 
an advantage of a pyrometer.  The EGT is usually higher with a bad injector.
