[Vwdiesel] piston meets combustion chamber plug

You are right that the gasket does overlap but it punched its way through 
it also. When you do get a chance to look there are several more pictures 
including one of the head gasket at 
http://merlin2.alleg.edu/employee/b/bwinelan/diesel/  You can start at the 
top and click through. some are boring and not clear. There is also a 
pretty good close up of the cylinder that was hurt (engine close1). I think 
it is bad enough to call the block junk but I sure would appreciate any 
opinions from anyone that has time to look.
