[Vwdiesel] How to quit smoking ....

I finally got my boost under control.  Wastegate still leaks air, but adjusting the linkage has gotten things to settle out.  Now I am peaking @ 12psi ( whew ! ) .  Now since I have no "air assist" on the wastegate, I have developed a smoking problem.  Just after I shift into second, then hit the go pedal, she smokes like tire fire.  Once the boost comes on, it goes away.  It will do the same in 1st too,but that gear is so short, you barely have time to make the smoke before going into second.  Anyways, I was wondering what the collective wisdom thought of adjusting on my pump to compensate.  I have turned down my "smoke" adjust screw down one turn.  This has brought my EGT's down to where they used to be.  Would I need to adjust more to solve this or is this a main fuel screw or spring tension in the boost aneroid issue ?
