[Vwdiesel] Engine parts everywhere! :-)

I've had one of my pumps pulled apart and rebuilt.

When I took mine apart and put it back together, the plunger assy put a
pre-load on the thrust bearing, just behind the input shaft bushing.

How much effort are you putting in getting the shaft to move? And does
it pop back out when you let off?

If so, I wouldn't worry too much about that axial play. The heavy spring
of the plunger assy keeps the shaft pushed out.
